We have all decided at some point in our lives that we need to lose weight. Normally it is because a special occasion is looming and we are thinking about how we will fit into the little black dress or how we will look in that classy dinner suit. There are some hints and tips that you can follow in order to lose weight quickly. But they are short term. The only long term answer is to lose the pounds gradually by eating more healthy foods and getting more exercise.
Starting today you need to cut out all white produce you eat. This includes refined sugar, flour, breads, pasta and rice. These products are known as simple carbohydrates and when you eat them it is the equivalent of eating sugar. You will get a sudden energy rush, then a fall and the craving for more sugar sets in. Instead you need to re-educate your palate and start eating complex carbohydrates. Exchange white bread for whole grain or whole meal and do the same with your pasta and rice.
Eat more fruit and vegetables as they will fill you up without putting on the pounds. 50% of every meal you eat should be made up of vegetables in as many different colors as possible. Do not juice them but eat as a whole food. Juicing releases the sugar content and we want to avoid those highs.
The next issue to be addressed should be your drinks. Drink lots of water but make sure that it is non carbonated water. Coffee plays havoc with your insulin levels leading to sugar cravings so is best avoided. Diet sodas are another hidden source of sugar. The worst culprit of all is alcohol as not only does it contain empty calories but once you have had a drink, you will find that resolve crumbles and sticking to your new eating plan much more difficult.
If you think this is going to be difficult think of the benefits. Your hair, skin and nails will love your new diet as will your waistline. You will also live longer according to the latest statistics.
To achieve even better results faster you need to increase the physical activity too. We should all walk a minimum of 10,000 steps per day or more if we are trying to lose weight. If you already walk each day, then walk further and faster. Whatever exercise you enjoy, do more of it. Swimming, roller blading, surfing etc are all great activities. Whilst you don’t have to go to the gym if you really can’t face it, combining a healthy diet with a weight training program and some aerobic exercise will get you better results. All those ladies you see on the shopping channels in the tight leotards will, most probably, lift weights.
Losing weight isn’t easy but you can do it. You can achieve long term results without feeling deprived. When everyone starts complimenting you on your new figure, your great skin and your inner glow it will all be worth it, won’t it?
